Problem Filling the Gas Tank (Q&A)

Dear Tom,
When I pump gasoline into the fuel tank of my 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, the fuel pump shuts off after a small amount of gas has been pumped. I have to stand there and press the fuel nozzle again and again to continue pumping. It takes forever to fill the tank! What’s the problem?

Adding Regular Air to Nitrogen-Filled Tires (Q&A)

Dear Tom,
I have three questions: (1) What would happen if I added regular air to a nitrogen filled tire? (2) Where do I get this done and how is nitrogen added when the tire loses pressure? (3) What is tread separation?
I ask these questions because the service writer at my Lexus dealer told me that I had a tread separation because somebody added air to my nitrogen-filled tires! Is there any truth to what he said?
